Challenges of Transport Planning Policy
David Ransom B. Urb & Reg. Plan – Director, Humphreys Reynolds Perkins Gold Coast
Infrastructure charges relating to new development have been a controversial topic in recent times. Charges relating to transport infrastructure under Council’s Priority Infrastructure Plan (PIP) have dramatically increased in recent years and there is evidence that these charges are having an adverse affect on the economic viability of development within the City.
The transport charges consist of both a State and Local component, and the collection of the State component in particular has been an issue of controversy between Council and the State. It is important from an economic development perspective that a suitable and appropriate balance is struck between the need to fund new transport projects in the City, and the need to maintain the economic viability and competitiveness of development in the City.
